The Reality of
Textile Waste
The fashion industry is one of the largest contributors to global waste, with over 92 million tonnes of textile waste produced each year. Much of this ends up in landfill, with less than 1% of garments being recycled into new clothing.
As consumption continues to rise, garments are worn less frequently and discarded faster than ever before, contributing to a growing cycle of overproduction and waste. In Australia alone, over 200,000 tonnes of clothing ends up in landfill each year, highlighting the urgent need for change.
